Heavy thunderstorms grounded flight crews searching for missing pilot Mike Bratlie, the Civil Air Patrol said Wednesday morning, but a ground team continued to search for the Lakeville, Minn., man in the Silver Bay area.
Bratlie and his Piper PA-31 Navajo plane were last detected by radar and cell phone signals June 8 in the Silver Bay area.
Aircrews from Minnesota and Wisconsin were standing by at midday for a break in the weather. The ground teams have encountered some very difficult terrain along with some flooding, according to a news release issued just before noon.
Anyone who might have heard or seen anything out of the ordinary on June 8 that could involve the missing pilot and plane is asked to call 911.
Bratlie, 67, is a seasoned pilot who has flown for the U.S. Navy and for a commercial airline service.
