The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the North Shore until midnight.
The warning, for central Lake and Cook counties, includes Grand Marais, Finland, Grand Portage, Lutsen and Tofte.
As of 7 p.m. weather spotters reported 1.75 inches of rain so far at Illgen City, and an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is possible this evening.
Drivers on Highway 61 along the North Shore should be aware of the possibility of flooding as the heavy rain runs off the higher terrain down toward Lake Superior.
Flash flood warnings also are in effect for Duluth, Two Harbors and the Iron Range through midnight.
