Eh? Help UMD plant an apple orchard

If an apple a day really does keep the doctor away, imagine what a whole orchard would do.

If an apple a day really does keep the doctor away, imagine what a whole orchard would do.

The Sustainable Agriculture Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth is looking for volunteers to help plant the apple orchard it won through an online-voting contest by Edy’s Fruit Bars.

The Duluth Community Heritage Apple Orchard event begins at 9 a.m. today at the UMD Field Research Studies Center, 4709 Jean Duluth Road, with a project overview and introductions, followed by a ceremonial tree planting and photo op from 9:20-9:40 a.m. Tree planting is 9:40-11:30 a.m., and a course on apple growing goes from noon to 2 p.m.

All fruit from the orchard goes toward Duluth community members.

We welcome your submissions and suggestions. Drop us a line at Eh?, Duluth News Tribune newsroom, 424 W. First St., Duluth, MN 55802, or news@duluthnews.com.
