The St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of a 28-year-old man found in a downtown Duluth apartment Friday was a homicide by stabbing. Two men are in custody.
It is Duluth’s first homicide since 2010.
According to a Saturday news release from the Duluth Police Department, the renter of an apartment in the 100 block of East First Street in downtown Duluth called police at 8:22 a.m. and said he found a dead man inside his apartment.
Officers arrived on scene and found “suspicious injuries” on the victim, the news release said. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim, a Duluth resident, died from a knife wound. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family.
The man who called police, a 37-year-old Duluth resident, was arrested and is being held at the St. Louis County Jail pending formal charges of second-degree murder. Police also arrested a 47-year-old Duluth man, who is being held pending formal charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
Police said the suspects and the victim knew each other.
The investigation is continuing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
The News Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged.
