The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a driver who reportedly had smoked synthetic marijuana before driving into a parked vehicle in the Plaza 53 parking lot in Mountain Iron on Tuesday morning.

The synthetic marijuana was purchased at a local smoke shop earlier in the morning and provided to the driver, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A witness told investigators the driver was yelling in the parking lot before he drove across the lot and hit the parked vehicle. The driver was having a seizure and was taken to a hospital. The crash happened at about 10:14 a.m.

No arrests have been made, and the Sheriff’s Office is withholding the suspect’s name while the case is under investigation. It will take a number of weeks before the test results are returned and the investigation is concluded, Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Backman said.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office reminded the public of the dangers of using synthetic drugs and cautioned drivers against driving impaired.
