Reader’s view: City could get by with used office furniture

The thought of spending $90,000 on new office furniture for City Hall during these economic times indicates a lack of common sense by city of Duluth administrators (“Council approves $90,000 furniture purchase,” March 27).

Good, quality, used office furniture is readily available for less than half that price, and I’m sure several local vendors would have been more than happy to have supplied the furniture needed. When I was a materials manager, we always checked the used market first, and, in most cases, we found what was required at large cost savings over new.
