The Limbog

Advertisers rush to drop Rush Limbaugh in light of his comments. But why has it taken so long?

If you haven’t heard, as of March 15th, 2012, 150 advertisers had dropped Rush Limbaugh. This means they won’t buy any more ads to display on his show and website, giving him much less money with which to spread lies. Even though, as you probably have been able to tell, I am not the biggest fan of this man. In fact, as a bleeding-heart liberal, I cannot stand him and consider him a bigoted hypocrite, and I don’t understand why suddenly now the advertisers decided to drop him en masse. The current excuse is that he called a law student named Sandra Fluke a “slut” after she stated how birth control should be provided under socialized healthcare. After this comment, he demanded to get a sex tape of her. This sounds too ridiculous to be true, but let’s consider some of his past actions. On his show on 4/29/1994, he claimed that there was no evidence that nicotine was addictive. He also claimed in 1995 that government-sponsored housing buildings increased in number during the Reagan administration, even though in 1985 a member of the administration said they were in the process of getting out of the housing business. This is all on top of his fundamentalist Christianity and thinking that gay marriage will ruin America. All in all, I’m glad that advertisers are dropping him, but I must pose the question: why didn’t this happen sooner?
