Volunteer Opportunities

Here are a few volunteer opportunities supported by the United Way Greater Duluth Volunteer Center. Go to www.volunteerduluth.org or call George Ashenmacher at (218) 726-4780 for more information.

  • Global Youth Service Day: Duluth seeks volunteers to help organize the event, help on the day of the event and some to help distribute fliers and recruit other volunteers. GYSD is April 21 and projects could span the entire city. Call Judy Gibbs at (218) 269-4712 or e-mail jgibbs@duluthmn.gov.

  • Food shelf: Union Gospel Mission Inc. needs volunteers Sunday-Friday to help with food prep and to fill lunch and supper meal trays. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 1:30-6 p.m. Friday; and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Contact Sharen Bergren at (218) 722-1196 or ugmduluth@msn.com.

  • Community outreach: Northland Spay/Neuter seeks individuals to communicate the importance and availability of spay/neuter to community members. Volunteers will represent the program at special events, take appointments and hand out information at booths around the Twin Ports area.   • Cub Scout Den Leader: Voyageurs Area Council needs volunteers to serve as weekly den leaders for a group of four to eight youths ages 7-11. The programs can follow outlines provided or the leader can create their own programs. Den leaders must take Youth Protection training and complete an application that allows VAC to conduct background checks. Training is available online and in classroom settings.
