A meal of mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, chocolate milk and butterscotch pudding might not sound exciting, but it was another milestone for family and friends of Everett Bergren.
Everett is the 13-year-old from West Duluth who was critically injured in a Jan. 19 traffic accident on Woodland Avenue. His grandmother, Paula Bergren, was killed in the accident.
Initially in a coma, Everett has made slow but steady progress ever since. He was transferred from Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center to the Essentia Health-Polinsky Medical Rehabilitation Center on Feb. 6. And on Tuesday, he had his first solid meal, according to his Caring Bridge webpage.
Great aunt Sue Spencer said Everett still is on a feeding tube and couldn’t eat much. But it’s yet another sign of the progress he’s making, she said.
