MADISON — A bill that changes homebrew guidelines for Wisconsin residents who make beer or wine at home is moving forward in the Legislature.

The state Senate passed the bill, 32-1, today. It clarifies residents can brew and serve beer or wine outside their home. They're still prohibited from selling what they make.

Current state law prohibits home brewers from moving their concoctions outside the home, making homebrew tasting events and competitions illegal. Homebrew enthusiasts around the state say the law is archaic and hurts their beloved hobby.

Groups like the Tavern League of Wisconsin oppose the bill, arguing it ignores state regulations on alcohol distribution.

The legislation now moves to the Assembly.
