Church organists will get an opportunity to learn from two prominent colleagues Saturday, Feb. 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in a workshop, “Leading the People in Song: A Mid-Winter

Workshop for Church Organists.”

The workshop will be led by Carol Donahue and Jason Branham, organists and music ministry directors at First United Methodist and First Lutheran Churches, respectively.

Donahue’s workshop, “Organ Plus,” will focus on creating variety in hymn-playing with special emphasis on adding instruments. Branham’s workshop, “How Do I Play These New Hymns?” will help organists adapt the variety of current hymn styles to the organ.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 151 W. Linden St., houses an 11-rank, eight-stop pipe organ built by Duluth organ-maker Dan Jaeckel.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., Donahue’s workshop at 9:30, and Branham’s at 11. Used organ music will be sold, with proceeds toward an American Guild of Organists (AGO) scholarship fund. The workshop is free for AGO members, $10 for non-members. Contact Velda Bell at (218)724-5492 or veldagb@hotmail.com to pre-register. Participants also may register at the door.
