Lakeview’s Broman makes history

Growing up, Anders Broman was involved in nearly every sport imaginable. He played baseball, basketball, football, golf and even soccer, but in recent years has focused on just basketball.
That focus paid off, as Broman has become one of the top prep basketball players in the Northland, and on Friday, Jan. 13, the Lakeview Christian Academy junior made history as the youngest boys’ basketball player in the state of Minnesota to reach 3,000 points in a prep career.
Broman’s 39 points against Christ’s Household of Faith played out at St. Scholastica — Reif Gym solidified his place in the record books, bringing his total points at that time to 3,018.
The moments and days following the game were a bit overwhelming for Broman, but also very enjoyable. “It’s been fun for the last couple of days,” Broman said of the positive feedback he’s received from family, friends, teammates and classmates.
A Jan. 11 press release from Lakeview Christian Academy stated that this season Broman was averaging 45 points per game and that if he stayed on pace, he was projected to break the single-season scoring record of 1,157. Sure enough, he did.
Broman has been playing basketball since seventh grade, but never knew how successful he would be playing basketball at the varsity level. “It’s always been my dream in high school,” he said. ”I never
really thought of it going this well, I’m just taking it as I go.
“I have great teammates and coaches,” Broman continued. “I couldn't do this without them."
He credits his coaches for drawing up great plays and his teammates for working to help get him open so that he is able to score.
Going into the game on Jan. 13, Broman knew he was close to the 3,000-point mark, but tried to not keep track and to play like it was another game. “When I hit it everyone cheered,” he said. “I knew then. But I try not to think too much about it, it’s just an individual accomplishment. I’m just trying to focus on ending the second half of the season strong.”
Broman and his teammates are hoping to make a competitive playoff run and maybe even make the team’s first appearance in the state tournament. Lakeview was one game away from state last year.
As a junior, Broman has to soon start thinking about college and what is next for him. He hopes to be able to one day play basketball in college.
“I just like that the sport is competitive, that there’s lots of scoring and fast -paced action,” Broman said. I like the fans and the cheering and the support. Everything”
