Contacting the suicide hotline
The texting program is aimed at Northeastern Minnesota youth and currently runs daily from 3 p.m. to midnight. It will be expanded to 24-hour coverage, probably by spring.
Middle and high school students in Carlton, St. Louis, Cook, Koochiching, Lake, Aitkin and Itasca counties and the Indian reservations within those counties have a new way to deal with thoughts of suicide: Text “life” to 839863.
All Minnesotans can continue to call (800) 273-8255.
Either way will get you to a counselor at the HSI Crisis Connection, the Minnesota affiliate of the National Suicide Prevention hot line.
