News Tribune night city editor Jaime DeLage’s Saturday column about lost money floating around Duluth generated almost as much response as did his classified ad, in which he invited the owner of a wad of cash he found to claim it by correctly stating the amount and location.

Among those intrigued by the column was Mike McConnell of Chicago radio powerhouse WGN-AM, who hosted DeLage on his morning show heard in 38 states Wednesday .

“Apparently in Duluth, a lot of people have holes in their pockets and they lose a lot of money,” McConnell said, trying to press DeLage for details of the find.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” DeLage replied, adding: “My real assumption is that somebody dropped it while they were making a drug deal.”

“Oh, so that neighborhood,” McConnell said.

What, he’s been there?
