Natalie Bennett Interviews Freshman Artists
Freshman artists discuss what inspires their art.By: Natalie Bennett, Sibley Scribe
Arts staff writer Natalie Bennett spoke with a few Freshman arts contributors to discuss what inspires them and why they like drawing. Here are some excerpts.
Emmy Rainwater
SS: Why is drawing your favorite hobby?
ER: For as long as I can remember I’ve been doodling on any surface. By third grade I was making whole picture books and when I was nine I copied the cover of my favorite video game. I remember showing off my creations and people saying, “You drew that?”
SS: What do you draw most and what do you do with your pictures?
ER: Most of the time you can catch me drawing characters and O.C.’s (originally club) from Naruto, or some other anime. If I sketch something that looks really nice, I scan it on to my laptop and color it with a coloring program called “open canvas”. Then I typically post it on a website called deviantart.com.
Taylor Holderness
SS: What inspires you to draw?
TH: Nothing, really. I just think something would be cool and I draw it. ....I like to draw things that would make good tattoos...things with banners.
Logan Christensen
SS: Is art your favorite activity?
LC: No. Actually, my favorite thing to do is lacrosse, but art comes in at a close second, and I draw for money too.
SS: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
LC: I’d like the ability to control time. There are so many things I’ve screwed up and would like to change, and so many other things that I would love to relive.
