Duluth-based GeaCom recently was awarded a 2011 Tekne Award, considered the Emmy of Minnesota’s tech industry.

GeaCom was among 14 leaders in technology and innovation in Minnesota presented with a Tekne by the Minnesota High Tech Association during a ceremony at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

GeaCom won in the Mobile and Communications Technology category for its Phrazer handheld wireless device that overcomes language barriers between patients and caregivers. The Phrazer has an interactive communication system with a touch screen to receive and deliver information.

It’s the latest in a series of honors given GeaCom, including the Edison Award, Minnesota Cup, the LifeScience Alley New Technology Showcase award and the Gold Value Chain Award from Connected World magazine.

Ikonics Corp. in Duluth was a finalist in the advanced manufacturing category for its state-of-the-art inkjet lab that brought digital texturing technology to the mold texturing industry. Another finalist in the category, Nova-Tech Engineering of Willmar, Minn., received that Tekne.
