The Duluth School Board will vote next week on both the purchase of Christ Lutheran Church property and the sale of the old Kenwood Duluth Edison Charter School.
The Christ Lutheran Church property, meant for Piedmont Elementary, 2827 Chambersburg Ave., is a field of about 1½ acres next to the church that the school will use for physical education classes. The church, 2415 Ensign St., approved the sale in September for $295,000. That figure is unconfirmed by both the district and the church, but materials given to church members in July showed the district’s offer.
No information will be available about the sale of the Kenwood property, 1750 Kenwood Ave., until after the board votes. The school, formerly leased to Duluth Edison, sits empty this year after occupants merged with Washburn Junior Academy students in the new North Star Academy, 3301 Technology Drive.
The board also will vote to borrow $22.7 million needed for cash flow because of another delay in state aid. The state is delaying 40 percent of what it owes school districts this year. Last year it was
30 percent. The district will pay about $150,000 to borrow, including interest and fees.
