What Duluth will do if parks referendum passes

If the parks referendum passes on Tuesday, Duluth Mayor Don Ness said the following capital projects and improvements will be completed in 2012:

If the parks referendum passes on Tuesday, Duluth Mayor Don Ness said the following capital projects and improvements will be completed in 2012:

  • Install new playground equipment for Lester Park, Cobb and Portland Square parks

  • Renovate picnic shelter and restroom at Memorial Park

  • Renovate warming house in Gary-New Duluth

  • Finish Duluth Heights Community Center master plan

  • Upgrade the Lower Chester Recreation Center

  • Replace restroom building at Lester Park

  • Complete first phase of the Duluth Traverse multi-use trail, a multi-use gravel trail that will cross the city that will be shared by bikers and hikers

  • Build new exterior restrooms at Lafayette Recreation Center

  • Repave portions of the Lakewalk from Canal Park to 26th Avenue East

  • Upgrade softball fields and dugouts at Merritt Park

  • Complete multiple resurfacing projects for basketball and tennis courts, equipment repairs and improvement projects at parks across the city

    Ness said if the referendum passes it also will allow the city to perform similar parks improvements in the future.
