Sweet Victory : Homecoming

Sibley wins homecoming game versus Richfield

By: Brandon Less, Sibley Scribe

For the first time in several years, the Henry Sibley Warriors won their Homecoming game, beating the Richfield Spartans 38-20. It was a great team effort, highlighted by great running by quarterback Dante Grant, and running backs (and brothers) Zach and Sam Gottfredsen.

Sibley got off to an early 7-0 lead with a quick touchdown pass to wide receiver Nick Golberg. After a string of great defensive stances, sophomore running back Zach Gottfredson broke through the line for a touchdown. This really got the crowd pumped up, especially for the sophomore fans. Cheers of “He’s a sophomore!” exploded from the crowd.

As the halftime festivities began, the Warriors held a 17-14 lead. The Sibley Band, Pom Squad and an appearance by the Homecoming Royal Court made for a fun-filled halftime show.

The Warriors running game came alive in the second half, especially with quarterback Dante Grant. Grant and Sam Gottfredson each exploded in for rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. It seemed as though they had taken control of the field.

The Warriors stood strong and finished off the Spartans for a 38-20 Homecoming victory. The offense moved the ball up and down the field and the defense held the Spartans when the team needed a stop. It was an all around sweet victory for the team.
