We asked Kyle Krzenski what he wished people understood about stuttering.
His response: People who stutter are not dumb. They know what they want to tell you. Please don’t try to finish the word the person is trying to say because most of the time you’ll get it wrong and they’ll feel even more pressure because of it. Just be patient with them. If it takes them 5 seconds, 30 seconds, a minute to get something out that they want to say, let them. They’d do the same for you. Try not to break eye contact or look away during the moments of stuttering. When you do that, chances are you forgot what the person was talking about. And for someone who stutters to say something over again is like running a marathon and tripping right before the finish line.
