Rink and Run blog: UMD No. 2 in INCH Power Rankings

Minnesota Duluth’s stay at No. 1 has ended after three weeks. Yale University of New Haven, Conn., took over the top spot in Monday’s Inside College Hockey Power Rankings, while UMD dropped to No. 2.

Yale (10-1) defeated No. 15 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 4-2 and No. 9 Union 5-0, while UMD (12-2-2) split with No. 12 Denver. Yale had been No. 2 in the INCH rankings which are here.

The Bulldogs, who play at Minnesota this weekend, had been ranked No. 1 the past three weeks in the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today-USA Hockey Magazine polls, which will be released later Monday.

According to available records, UMD has never been ranked No. 1 for four straight weeks. The Bulldogs were No. 1 for three straight weeks spanning February and March in 1984 in the WDOM Radio media poll in Providence, R.I., and for three straight weeks spanning January and February in 1986 in rankings by the NCAA.
