Superior pier reopens
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new Arrowhead Pier in Superior, they’re having a little grand opening and ribbon cutting for it on Thursday.
The party starts at 10 a.m. Thursday at the west end of Belknap Street on the St. Louis River.
The old Arrowhead Pier was a remnant of a bridge originally built in the 1920s. It became a fishing pier in 1987.
The pier was demolished and rebuilt this summer and the surrounding recreational area was renovated.
It’s play time
Get thee to a theater.
That’s the invitation from Theatre Communications Group and the Minnesota Theatre Alliance, who have joined forces to create “Free Night of Theater,” a campaign to attract new audiences to live theater production.
Through October, you can see a free show at one of the participating theaters — provided you’ve never been there before. Locally, this means Renegade Theater Company at Teatro Zuccone or the County Seat Theater in Cloquet. Fifty-six theaters across Minnesota are participating, including Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, the Reif Center in Grand Rapids and the Ordway in St. Paul.
Reservations are limited to two tickets per person (four for some family shows). Tickets must be reserved online at www.mnfreenight.org, starting at 10 a.m. today, and additional tickets will be released through the month. Tickets can be picked up at the theater’s box office.

A truckload of grub on the line
Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank tells us they are in 13th place out of 202 food banks nationwide in competition for a free truckload of food.
Feeding America is offering the truckload for the food bank that secures the most online pledges by midnight Thursday.
