Sunday, Sept. 5

Duluth-Superior Pride 2010 wraps up today. Some highlights: A worship service and breakfast will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Unitarian Church, 835 W. College St.; a parade will be held at noon on Tower Avenue in Superior; the Fruit Float, a booze cruise, will be held aboard the Vista Star at 3:30 p.m.; the train experience Foo Foo Choo Choo departs from the Depot at 3:30 p.m.; lesbian films will be screened at Chester Creek Café; an art exhibit will be held at Zeitgeist; and the annual drag show will be held at the Main Club in Superior. Monday, Sept. 6

The Duluth Central Labor Body’s 122nd annual Labor Day picnic will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Bayfront Festival Park. Per usual, there will be free food, beverages, parking and family entertainment for union members and their families.

The Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank’s Teague Alexy plays around 9 p.m. every Monday night at Sir Ben’s through the end of September. Outside (weather permitting). The Brothers Burn Mountain will also perform tonight.

Kathy McTavish plays cello music every Monday at 9 p.m. at Carmody Irish Pub.

Learn how to do the salsa with Megan Abel every Monday at 7 p.m. at Grandma’s Sports Garden in Canal Park. There is no cost for the lesson, and open dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. is free as well. All ages.

Tuesday, Sept. 7

City crews will be closing the section of West First Street between Mesaba Avenue and Sixth Avenue West to install a new gas main. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks. Detours will be posted.

The Park Point Camping Task Force, whose purpose is to study the feasibility of primitive camping on Park Point, will meet for the last time at 7 a.m. at Duluth Grill.

A no-entrance-fee farmers’ market kicks things off from 8 to 10 a.m. From then on there will be a $4 entrance fee for adults. Highlights include presentations by John E. Ikerd and Nate Hagens (at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively) and performances by Stephanie Nilles and Yeltzi at 5:30 p.m.

Lakewalk Imaging Center, 1502 London Road, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Lakewalk Festival.

The Sampo Beach Association will hold its annual Mojakka Day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Little Grand Lake, 7095 Saginaw Road in Saginaw. Lunch costs $6 for adults and $3 for children. There will also be a quilt raffle, a bake table, door prizes, a flea market and a performance by Mae and Marie.

A new collection of original Nancy Stone paintings in oil will be on display through Tuesday at Pizza Luce.

“Blu Dot” will be the featured collection at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art through Sunday, Sept. 5.

Original oil paintings and jewelry pieces from Nancy Stone will be on display through Monday at Moxie Hollow, 202 E. Superior St.

The Duluth Art Institute’s Emerging Photographers Exhibition 2010 will be on display through Monday at the Depot’s Corridor Gallery.
