Bayfront Blues Festival wraps up at Bayfront Festival Park. Check out www.bayfrontblues.com to see who’s playing.

“Uniform Week,” a new temporary exhibit at Veterans’ Memorial Hall, will be on display from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday at the Depot. Nearly 100 military uniforms from more than a century of local veteran history will be featured.

Sproutlings, a new eco-conscious children’s boutique at the Stone Ridge Shopping Center, will be hosting a grand opening celebration through Friday, Aug. 20.

Monday, Aug. 16

Proctor’s 35th annual Hoghead Festival kicks off at 1 p.m. with the Chamber of Commerce golf outing at Proctor Golf Course. Call 624-0187 for details.

SMDC Foundation will host the 12th annual Legacy of Hope Pro/Am Golf Classic at Northland Country Club. Golf Magazine columnist David Feherty will be the guest speaker at the night’s dinner, which costs $95 for individuals, $175 for couples or $700 for a table of eight. Call 786-1062.

Bring any word-origin questions you might have to the Two Harbors Public Library at 6:30 p.m., when Anatoly Liberman, author of “Word Origins and How We Know Them: Etymology for Everyone,” will be making a free presentation.

The latest History in a Pint feature from Veterans’ Memorial Hall will focus on “Unearthing the Essex.” Ann Merriman and Christopher Olson, co-founders of Maritime Heritage Minnesota, will present the full history of the USS Essex at 6 p.m. at Carmody Irish Pub. Must be 21.

Thursday, Aug. 19

Proctor’s 35th annual Hoghead Festival continues with a pet parade at 6:30 p.m. and bike night at Powerhouse Bar. Call 624-0187 for details.

Horton’s Gym will host a Golden Gloves boxing event at 7 p.m. at Grandma’s Sports Garden. One highlight is a “news anchor knockout,” pitting Northland’s NewsCenter personality Trevor Roy against Fox 21’s Nick LaFave. All ages. Cost is $15 at the door.

Mayor Don Ness, the Duluth Economic Development Authority and Duluth Playhouse will present a vaudeville-themed event at 7 p.m. at the NorShor. Tangier 57 will perform in the mezzanine lobby, the North Shore Big Band will perform on the main stage and a photo documentary on the history of the Orpheum/NorShor will be presented by Tony Dierckins. There will be complimentary champagne, live music, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $100 per person and proceeds benefit the NorShor restoration project.

The Modest Home Makeover home will be presented to its inhabitants at 5 p.m. The house is located at 25 E. Orange St. The home will be open to the public through 8 p.m.

The Playhouse Youth Repertory Theatre Company will stage William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” through Aug. 22 at the Depot. The free Mayor’s Block Party will be held in Two Harbors. Highlights include a classic car show from 1 to 5 p.m.; a kids block party from 1 to 5 p.m.; and a street dance starting at 1 p.m. Performers include Don’t Panic (8:15 p.m.), Silencing the Desperate (5 p.m.) and the Accidentals (7 and 10:30 p.m.).

As part of its “Reel Movies for Real Needs” film series — for families of special-needs children with autism or other challenges — Marcus Theatres’ Duluth location will screen “Nanny McPhee Returns” at 10:30 a.m. The “Reel Movies for Real Needs” program creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for special needs children by offering family films with a lower sound volume and brighter lighting for families who may not feel comfortable attending regularly scheduled shows.

A new collection of original Nancy Stone paintings in oil will be on display through Aug. 31 at Pizza Luce.

“Blu Dot” will be the featured collection at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art through Sept. 5.

Original oil paintings and jewelry pieces from Nancy Stone will be on display through Sept. 6 at Moxie Hollow, 202 E. Superior St.

The Duluth Art Institute’s Emerging Photographers Exhibition 2010 will be on display through Sept. 6 at the Depot’s Corridor Gallery.
