The Izaak Walton League of America will sponsor an afternoon of paddling and fishing on Homer Lake in Superior National Forest starting at 1 p.m. Saturday to celebrate America’s first annual Roadless Recreation Week, Aug. 7-15. The week-long celebration highlights the importance of the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, issued to protect nearly 60 million acres of pristine national forests, according to the League.
Homer Lake is immediately adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and south of Brule Lake. It’s part of the Baker-Homer-Brule Roadless Area. About 61,000 acres of Superior National Forest were covered by the 2001 roadless rule.
