Duluth nurses plan to picket TuesdayMore than 1,300 Duluth nurses from SMDC Health Systems and St. Luke’s are negotiating a new labor agreement. Their contract expired June 30.
Duluth nurses and their supporters will hold a second informational picket Tuesday to draw attention to what they believe to be inadequate staffing levels.
The picket will be held from 1:30-5 p.m. outside St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. The first informational picket was held July 12 in front of St. Mary’s Medical Center and drew more than 700 participants during the five-hour demonstration.
More than 1,300 Duluth nurses from SMDC Health Systems and St. Luke’s are negotiating a new labor agreement. Their contract expired June 30. Besides economic issues, nurses want contract language that will give nurses control over what they believe to be unsafe assignments and patient levels, according to the Minnesota Nurses Association, the union representing the nurses.
