WATERTOWN, S.D. — A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis to the South Dakota city of Watertown had some tense moments when an indicator light showed part of the landing gear had failed to come down.

Air Force pilot Steve Cox and his family were on the plane Sunday afternoon, and he says he visually confirmed for the pilots that the gear appeared to be in the proper position.

Cox says the plane circled the airport several times before landing, and passengers were told to brace for a hard landing. He says there was anxiety but no panic. The plane landed safely.

Delta officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment early today.
