Wednesday Night at the Races starts this week, July 21, 2010, at Duluth's Central High School. These races are free and organized by Grandma's Marathon. About 500 kids show up each week to race in different age groups divided into girls and boys, the littlest ones often running alongside moms and dads.
Registration each evening is 5-5:50 p.m., with races starting at 6. Wheelchair races start off the event when the location is on a smooth track. Each participant gets a ribbon, and winners of their races are awarded a trophy. There usually are raffle prizes handed out among racers who stay for the whole event.
