Twin Cities nurses set strike authorization vote

MINNEAPOLIS — After a one-day strike last week, the union representing thousands of Twin Cities nurses has set a second strike authorization vote — this time for an open-ended walkout.

MINNEAPOLIS — After a one-day strike last week, the union representing thousands of Twin Cities nurses has set a second strike authorization vote — this time for an open-ended walkout.

Minnesota Nurses Association spokesman John Nemo said the vote will be held June 21. Nemo said if a strike is authorized, the earliest it could happen would be early July.

Nurses went on strike for 24 hours last Thursday at 14 Twin Cities hospitals over staffing issues. No new talks are scheduled.

Hospitals spokeswoman Maureen Schriner said the hospitals would like to talk to the nurses about the hospitals’ proposals, “and instead the union is only talking about a strike.”
