Disgusting Delights
3 bags Werthers chewy caramels
2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided
1 box German chocolate cake mix
½ c. butter or margarine, melted
1 – 12 oz. bag of chocolate chips, divided
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of milk, stirring often and set aside. Mix the cake mix powder with butter and 1/3 cup of milk. Press ½ of the dough into a 9 x 13 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove and sprinkle ½ of the chocolate chips on the crust. Pour the melted caramels over this. Flatten the remaining dough in your palms forming small “shingles” and lay the shingles over the top of the caramels to from a top crust. Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips. Press with hands all together and bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool and cut into squares. Keep in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve them. If you want to add nuts, add 1 ½ cups of chopped nuts, divided, and add them with the chocolate chips.

I love this recipe because it is so easy and tastes so good. I’ve always received rave reviews for these brownies at every party I’ve brought them to I bagged one up for a friend to take home he described them as “so-sinfully-and-disgustingly-good that you find yourself licking the inside of the bag when you’re done and chewing your fingernails because they’re might be some caramel hiding under one of them!

I love this recipe because its’ quick, easy and has many variations. You can use blueberry Jell-o and blueberries, orange Jell-o and mandarin oranges, etc. You can also pick up the ingredients and make it at the site of the party you are attending as it’s very quick to prepare. I bring this in a fancy bowl with the recipe attached and leave behind for the hostess.
Kentucky Chess Pie
1 stick margarine
1 ¼ c. white granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 T. fresh lemon juice
1 T. white cornmeal
1 tsp. vanilla
8 inch ready-made unbaked pie crust shell
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the margarine in the microwave. Add the eggs, sugar, white cornmeal, vanilla and lemon juice. Pour in ready-made pie crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Put aluminum foil around the edges to keep from getting too dark. Tip: Cut the rim off an old ready made pie crust shell to use to prevent over-browning or burning pies.
