A groundbreaking was held Wednesday for the new Lester Park Elementary School.
The school, to be completed by September 2011, will be for students from Lester Park and Rockridge elementary schools. Classrooms will have natural daylight, temperature and humidity control and ventilation, and will be clustered in learning centers with easy access to the media center and other support services. The school’s design meets silver standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Standards include those for energy-efficient construction, reduced energy consumption, water conservation and control of water run-off.
All property acquisitions for the building are complete and, as of May, about 60 percent of contracted work is by local contractors.
