Michael William Peterson

Michael William Peterson, 56 of Duluth, died on May 27, 2010. He was born in Superior, Wis., on March 30, 1954. Mike grew up in Central Park in Superior. He attended Superior Schools and graduated from SSHS in 1972 and from UWS in 1976.

Mike was a hockey player from the age of 10. He was on Wisconsin State Championship Teams in Pee Wee, Bantam and SSHS teams. He was also a member of the UWS Champion­ship Hockey Team of 1976. Mike loved music. He was a drummer in a number of bands in the ’70s and ’80s. He also played guitar and piano. Mike married Kay Sisto in Duluth on August 25, 1979. He retired from the Minnesota Army Reserve last year as a major after 22 years. Mike was proud of his three great sons. They were his pride and joy. He loved the family cabin on Bony Lake in Barnes, especially the sauna. Mike loved all animals. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Duluth. Mike worked at the New Page Mill in Duluth for many years.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Kay (Sisto) Peterson; father, Vern Peter­son in 2004; cousin, Sean Merila in 1988 and his grandparents.

He is survived by his sons, Michael, Aaron and Jordan; mother, Loretta Peterson of Barnes; brother, Gary (Doreen) of South Range; sister, Karlyn Schiess of Superior; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mike will be deeply missed by his loving family. He was always a quiet, gentle soul.

Private family services will be held this summer in Barnes.
