Song of the Week XII: The Kris Special’s ‘Papers and Such’
Each week A&E reporter Matthew R. Perrine not-so-subtly suggests a song you should know by heart.
Each week I not-so-subtly suggest a song you should know by heart. For this very special twelfth edition, I want you to know how much I appreciate “Papers and Such,” a standout track from California group (now duo) the Kris Special.
Fans of Neko Case and other dusty, female-fronted alt-country outfits will absolutely flip when they spend a weekend with this soaring track and its chasing-the-horizon parent album, “Alone Feels Like a Hotel Room” — a collection of equally enthralling tracks that seems practically ready-made for a cross-country roadtrip.
Anyway, if you like what you hear (and chances are you will) and have ready access to California-bound plane tickets, keep your eyes on www.myspace.com/thekrisspecial. The Kris Special's Anne Pointer and Nick Schutz are prepping for a Golden State-exclusive tour. Why exclude 49 other states? Because they’re traveling by horse.
Or at least that's what they told their fans on April Fools' Day!
As always, happy listening.
