"Shoot for Fun" is both fun and fund-raiser

It isn't too late to sign up for Saturday's 13th annual "Shoot for Fun," the primary fund-raiser for Courage Center Duluth. The event is a sporting clays shoot at Burt Schweiger's Old Vermilion Trail Shooting Preserve north of Duluth.

So far, 300 shooters on 60 teams have signed up for the event, said Eric Larson, program coordinator for Courage Center Duluth. You can sign up as part of a five-member team, or sign up individually and be put on a team. Cost is $100 per individual.

Last year, the event raised $98,000, Larson said, nearly half of Courage Center Duluth's $200,000 annual operating budget.

"The money we raise supports ongoing programs for youth programs for kids with disabilities, vision loss or autism, and limited adult programs as well," Larson said.

The official name of the event is Kolar Automotive Group Shoot for Fun, recognizing the auto dealer's sponsorship of the event.

To register online, go to: http://www.couragecenter.org/ContentPages/shoot2009.aspx

Or show up at Old Vemilion Trail on Saturday and register there. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Shooting groups start at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. A women's shooting clinic, new this year, begins at 1 p.m. Guns and ammunition provided. The day's events include a hearty lunch and dinner, silent auction and games.
