Song of the Week VII: Needtobreathe’s ‘Something Beautiful’

Each week A&E reporter Matthew R. Perrine not-so-subtly suggests a song you should know by heart. (Due to some technical difficulties last week, there will be two separate “Song of the Week” installments this week.)

Each week I not-so-subtly suggest a song you should know by heart. For this very special seventh edition, I chose “Something Beautiful,” an uplifting anthem for those sky’s-the-limit spring days. It comes courtesy of the Charleston, S.C., band Needtobreathe.

Interestingly enough, the group shares an out-of-the-ordinary bond with the last “Song of the Week” group, Archeology: its principal songwriters, Bear and Bo Rinehart, are also the products of holy men (in the brothers’ case an Assembly of God pastor). Unlike Archeology, however, the good ol’ boys in Needtobreathe have fully embraced this connection; they have a fervent fanbase within the Christian rock empire.

Regardless, their music isn’t overly preachy, so anyone who just likes a solid rock song will find much to love here. I’d particularly recommended Needtobreathe for fans of Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders and Sioux Falls' Kory and the Fireflies. Anyway, if you like what you hear, visit www.needtobreathe.net and hear more from the group’s latest album, “The Outsiders.”
