Minnesota Cup contest seeks innovative business proposals

Got a breakthrough business idea?

Got a breakthrough business idea?

Consider entering the Minnesota Cup, a statewide competition for budding entrepreneurs, that’s seeking new and innovative business ideas. Winners in six award divisions — high technology, bioscience, social entrepreneurship, general, student and clean technology and renewable energy — will get part of the $130,000 prize money. They also get free professional services from some Minnesota Cup sponsors.

Last year’s finalists went on to secure more than $8 million in capital. The contest also led to business partnerships and collaborations.

In its sixth year, the competition is getting a Northland boost. The Arrowhead Growth Alliance has become a partner. The alliance includes Iron Range Resources, the Blandin Foundation, Greenstone Group, the Northland Foundation, the Area Partnership for Economic Expansion and Minnesota Power. All serve as contest sponsors.

Entries are being taken at www.minnesotacup.org until May 21.
