Rink and Run blog: Stalock, Brown, Fulton

According to Chris Heisenberg's Division I recruiting Web site, Breck High School senior forward Tyson Fulton has agreed to a letter of intent with Union College of Schenectady, N.Y. Fulton, brother of Minnesota Duluth winger Jordan Fulton, had 93 points (35 goals and 58 assists) in 31 games this season, including the playoffs. Breck won a second straight Class A championship earlier this month.

   ALSO UMD recruit JT Brown’s four goals last Friday versus Des Moines are more than any Waterloo (Iowa) Black Hawk has recorded in a single game since P.K. O’Handley took the helm of the U.S. Hockey League team in 2002-2003.  Brown was two goals shy of the franchise record recorded by Mike Duffey when he scored six times against the Buccaneers on February 26, 1983.  Brown did match the largest goal-scoring performance in the league this season; Erik Haula of the Omaha Lancers previously scored four against the Hawks on Nov. 6th. Brown will be with the Bulldogs for 2010-11.

     Brown is tied for third in USHL scoring with 32 goals and 40 assists for 72 points in 56 games. He's tied for second in the league in goal scoring.

     ALSO, more on former UMD goalie Alex Stalock, who set an American Hockey League rookie record Tuesday with his 36th win of the season for the Worcester (Mass.) Sharks. This from Bill Ballou of the Worcester TELEGRAM & GAZETTE, wballou@telegram.com:

     Alex Stalock returned to the Sharks’ net Tuesday night, and it was as though he never left.

     The Rookie of the Year candidate stopped 24 of 25 Syracuse shots to record his 36th win of the year, a record for AHL rookies. Corey Hirsch won 35 for the 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers.

     Stalock needs four wins to become just the second AHL goalie in 45 years with a 40-win season.

     “It would be good to do it,” he said, “but I’ll have to say that it wasn’t something I wrote down on paper as a goal at the start of the season.”

     Stalock has been bothered by a bruised hand, but said it didn’t give him a problem last night. Coach Roy Sommer plans to give his goalie a shot at the 40-win mark.

     “Yeah, I’d like to see him do it,” the coach said, adding that plans are for Stalock to play two of the three games this weekend.
