John “Johnny” Elick Dahlgren

John E. Dahlgren, 79, of Esko, formerly of Duluth, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Kerrick, Minn., to Oscar and Edna (Mitchell) Dahlgren. John was an Army Third Class Sergeant in the Korean War and a member of the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton. He was a retired Teamsters driver for Local 346. Johnny was a devoted family man with a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed yard work, feeding the wildlife and woodworking.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Wilbur Maltby; and two sisters, Dorothy Erickson and Bernice “Bunny” Edin. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, of 49 years; daughter, Diana (Randy) Johnson of Rogers; sons, John and Steven Dahlgren of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Ryan, Alyssa and Amy; one great-grandson, Elijah; sisters, Eunice Sangren of Willow River, Ellen Pogue of Duluth and Fran Johnsen of Finlayson; sister-in-law, Helen Maltby of Moose Lake; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

VISITATION: Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed with a luncheon in the fellowship room. Inurnment services will be at Oak Lake Community Cemetery with full Military Honors presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962.
