Oberstar: He'll vote yes on health care reform

U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., announced Saturday that he will vote yes Sunday on the health care reform bill that will come up for final passage in the U.S. House of Representatives.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar announced in a news release Saturday afternoon that he would support the comprehensive health care legislation that the House of Representatives will consider Sunday.

“I have evaluated the issues of health care for 35 years and very intensively for this past year as Congress has worked on the major reform legislation,” Oberstar said in a statement. “The fine points of this health care bill have now been defined, and in my judgment, the balance of benefits are in favor of this bill. That will benefit the people of the 8th congressional district and the American people.”

Oberstar told the News Tribune last week that the health care bill probably would get his vote, but that he wanted to see the pieces come together. The congressman’s spokesman John Shadl said that the regional disparity issue with Medicare was one concern. But with some adjustments, Oberstar signed off on it on Saturday.
