The Duluth school district’s education committee is expected to recommend tonight that the School Board approve “Lincoln Park Middle School” as the name of the future western middle school.

The board will vote on the name March 16. Board Chairman Tim Grover proposed the Lincoln Park name.

“It’s something I have thought about for a number of months — that it was a good idea,” Grover said. “Going back many decades there has been a Lincoln, then a Lincoln Park School.”

He said several West Duluth and Lincoln Park community leaders have approached him in support of the name.

The names of Denfeld and East high schools were approved during February’s regular School Board meeting. Construction of the western middle school is scheduled to begin this summer. A recommendation for the eastern middle school’s name is yet to be made, but Grover said he is open to suggestions.
