CHISHOLM — The man critically wounded in a fatal bar shooting in northeastern Minnesota is improving at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
Cale Steve Nelson, 29, was shot twice in the abdomen when a gunman opened fire at Jim’s Sports Club Bar and Grill in Chisholm on Saturday. St. Mary’s Medical Center spokeswoman Kim Kaiser in Duluth says Nelson’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
Another man at Nelson’s table, Edward John Walberg, was shot and killed. A third man was also hit and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspected gunman is in the St. Louis County Jail in Hibbing. Authorities say the gunman’s ex-wife was also seated at the table where the victims were shot, but was not injured.
