Senior Nikola (Niko) Bogojevic can now add state champion to his list of accomplishments, which includes a national title and a scholarship to wrestle at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Bogojevic received a welcome back celebration on Monday, March 1 to celebrate his becoming the second wrestler in the history of the school to win the state title, the first being Bob Olson in 1966. Bogojevic accredits his success to his workout partners, coaches and his drive and determination.
“I went for it all this year,” Bogojevic said.
Last year Bogojevic lost his first round in the state tournament. He said he was disappointed in this.
“I got fed up, so I worked harder. I put so much time and effort into it, I said I’m not gonna lose anymore,” Bogojevic said during his speech at the halftime of the girls’ basketball game.
After halftime, there was a reception for Bogojevic where cake and soda was served.
Bogojevic’s coach, William Gedde, said during the reception that Bogojevic seemed a little unhappy after the end of the tournament because it was, “the end of the line.”
“I told him ‘This isn’t the end of the line at all. We’ll be at Fargo, go to Madison when we can, and I’ve got my 2016 trip planned for the Olympics,’” Gedde said.
Activities Director Ray Kosey wished Bogojevic luck.
“I hope to see him in the Olympics, and knowing Niko he will probably succeed,” Kosey said.
