Spartan Hockey good on and off the ice

By: Sarah Rivord , The Spartan Spin

Faculty and community members on Activity Director Ray Kosey’s email list recently received a message stating that SHS is ranked second for the WHCA Academic Award. His congratulatory email makes it clear that this is an accomplishment to be proud of.

WHCA stands for Wisconsin Hockey Coaches’ Association. It includes hockey coaches from all around the state on high school and college levels. Their overall goal as an association is to make Wisconsin Hockey the best it can be, and to make each player the best they can be.

Being ranked second in the state is a very good standing. Superior was ranked among 46 schools with an average grade point average of 3.74, only one-hundredth behind Wausau-West, the first place school who achieved a 3.75. They were also a fair six-hundredths in front of the third place team, Tomah, who had a 3.68.

WHCA recognizes the hard work that hockey teams do, and recognize that they are the ones who are advancing Wisconsin hockey. For that reason teams are recognized for a variety of accomplishments. It’s good to see that the association and Superior High School still hold value in academics and promote excellence both out on the ice and in the classroom.
