One hundred wins for Coach Dave Kontny

Varsity basketball coach Dave Kontny reached 100 wins on Tuesday, January 26, when the boys’ varsity team beat Rice Lake. Kontny said that Rice Lake has always been a challenging team to beat. The final score was 61-54.

Kontny started coaching seven years ago in the 2003-2004 season. Kontny’s first season consisted of six wins and 15 losses. Now, combining all seven of Kontny’s seasons, his record is 103-45.

His goal now is to win the state tournament.

“Everyday I walk past that trophy case and think about putting another one in there,” Kontny said.

Kontny gives all the credit to his team, not himself.

“Without good players there aren’t good teams,” Kontny says.

The basketball team’s conference record so far is 59-11.
