MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — A Minnesota couple donated part of their wedding budget to relief efforts in Haiti, and now they’re being flooded with donations themselves.
Duluth native Leah Bogen and Will Nicholson are getting married in June. Bogen told KARE-TV the smiling faces in her bridal magazines were a jarring contrast to the images of destruction she saw in the newspaper. So she and her fiance agreed to donate $2,500 from their wedding’s food budget to a relief charity.
As word of their donation spread, dozens of people offered to help the couple with their wedding. The offers include donations of photography services, clothes and invitations.
Bogen said a couple from the Twin Cities Haitian community offered to prepare a traditional Haitian meal. Beau Pierre and his wife will get help from members of their church.
The couple says for every donation they’re able to use, they’ll donate that part of their wedding budget to the relief efforts.
