Need help with your taxes?

If your household income is $49,000 or less, free help is available through Community Action Duluth beginning Jan. 30.

The agency has recruited more than 80 volunteers to help an expected 1,500 or more people prepare their 2009 income tax forms.

Preparation will include ensuring that those who are qualified claim the Earned Income Tax Credit. Twenty percent to 25 percent of those eligible fail to claim the credit, according to the Internal Revenue Service. The credit provides a family with three or more children up to $5,657,

$3,043 for a family with one child, and a childless worker with $457.

Walk-ins can get help at the agency’s office, 19 N. 21st Ave. W., on Saturdays beginning Jan. 30 from 8:45 a.m. to about 1 p.m., and Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to about 9 p.m.

Help for people with dependents will be available at the agency’s Memorial Park location, 5315 Grand Ave., from 4:30 p.m. to about

9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Feb. 1. Child care will be provided.

Those seeking help shouldn’t arrive in the last hour of the sessions. For more information or to make an appointment for the Memorial Park site, call (218) 726-1665.
