George Allen "Al" Eckland, 82, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on November 19, 2009.
George Allen "Al" Eckland, 82, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on November 19, 2009.
He was born in Duluth, in 1927 to George Luther Eckland and Esther Elvira Samson.
He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1944. He served his country during World War II in the Navy on the USS Muliphen. Later he went on to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in December of 1950. He began working for Minnesota Power and Light as a civil engineer. There he met Marilynn Felicia Mucha and married her in 1954 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Duluth. Al joined Peter Kiewit and Sons', Co. of Omaha, NE, and worked for the company for over 30 years as a superintendent in charge of building highways, dams, buildings, and tunnels. He retired in 1987 to Lakeland, Florida.
He is survived by his wife Marilynn Eckland, son, Bruce Allen Eckland, and three grandchildren, Elena Margaret, Carla Lucille, and Raymond Martin Eckland of Bishop, California, as well as nephews and friends.
FUNERAL SERVICES: were held in Lakeland, Florida on November 27, 2009. Al will be dearly missed by all.
