Sunday, Nov. 22

The Banff Mountain Film Festival will bring its world tour to Marshall School at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Nov. 22-23. Cost is $10.

The Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad is hosting a model railroad show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21-22, at the Mariner Mall in Superior. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 4 to 12 and free for those 3 and younger. Call 310-1439.

The musical comedy “Cold Feet” will be staged at Midi Dinner Theater. Call 525-2045 for details.

The Junior League of Duluth will host its annual Festival of Trees from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21-22, at the DECC. Do some holiday shopping with more than 140 area crafters and vendors. Cost is $6 (or $5 if you bring a food shelf donation or buy an advance ticket from a Junior League of Duluth member) and free for children 12 and younger.

University Theatre at UWS will stage Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” at 1 p.m. at Manion Theater (in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center). Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $2 for current UWS students; call (715) 394-8380.

Monday, Nov. 23

The Monday Adult Skaters (Ladies Recreational Club) have an open skate in the DECC arena from 11 a.m. to noon. Price is $3 per session and parking passes for the season (which runs through March) are available for $5. Sessions open to all adult skaters. Call 724-2285 for more. Bring your own skates.

The Needle Arts Guild will meet from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 45th Avenue East and Colorado Street. All are welcome. Cost is $10 for non-members plus an $8 materials fee. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee and bars will be served. Call 525-2576.

Tuesday, Nov. 24

There will be a tree-decorating event at the Fitger’s Holiday Forest from 4 to 9 p.m. Bring ornaments, lights and artificial trees (3 to 6 feet tall) or use ones there — all of which will be auctioned off to benefit the Red Cross.

Gene Koshinski will direct a percussion ensemble at 7:30 p.m. at UMD’s Weber Music Hall. Cost is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students and $3 for UMD students.

Singles Activities Group, for those 45 and older, will meet at 11 a.m. at the West Duluth Perkins for coffee and conversation. Call 722-6828.

The Maxi Childs Trio performs at 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Black Water Lounge, 231 E. Superior St.

The Score Bar hosts salsa dancing every Tuesday. Free dance lessons kick off the night from 7 to 8, followed by open dancing until midnight.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller Dwan, 502 E. Second St.

Thursday, Nov. 26

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, all of Duluth’s libraries will be closed from Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29.

Friday, Nov. 27

Opening at local theaters: “Old Dogs,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Ninja Assassin.”

Lake Superior Singles Fellowship, a non-denominational singles group supported by the United Presbyterian Church, will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the West Duluth Sammy’s for dinner. Call 940-2248.

Food & Funny, a dinner show featuring entertainment from comedians Steve Sabo and Patrick Ryan, will be held at 8 p.m. at Dubh Linn Irish Pub. Cost is $18 ($10 for just the show). Reservations recommended; call 727-1559.

Saturday, Nov. 28

The Alrights will perform at 10 p.m. at the Rex Liquor Emporium. Details TBA.

Jim Heffernan will sign “Cooler Near the Lake” from noon to 1 p.m. at Northern Lights Books & Gifts; Rosemary Guttormsson will follow him when she signs “That Cat is Really Something” from 1 to 2 p.m.

Beatrice Ojakangas will sign “Petite Sweets: Bite-Size Desserts to Satisfy Every Sweet Tooth” from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Bookstore at Fitger’s.

Exhibits

Painter David Grote’s “A Rural Northern Life” exhibit will be on display through Friday, Nov. 27, at North End Arts Gallery, 1323 Broadway in Superior.

“Victory,” new work by Aaron McLeod, will be on display through Nov. 29 at the Duluth Art Institute’s George Morrison Gallery (in the Depot). Also through Nov. 29: “The Modern Primitive,” new work by Gary Swanson, will be on display in the Depot at the DAI’s John Steffl Gallery.

“Natural World Observed 2009,” which documents every region of the country, will be on display through Dec. 20 at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art. Free and open to the public.

An exhibit featuring work from UMD faculty will be on display through Jan. 10, 2010, at the university’s Tweed Museum of Art.

Nancy Stone is showing original oil paintings through Sept. 30 at Moxie Hollow, 323 E. Superior St.

Cecilia Lieder’s annual solo exhibit at Northern Prints Gallery, 318 N. 14th Ave. E., will be on display through Jan. 9, 2010. Hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Tweed Museum of Art will be showcasing artwork by UMD art and design faculty through Jan. 10, 2010.

The exhibit “A View from Space” will be on display through Jan. 10, 2010, at the Duluth Children’s Museum. Also there: “Moneyville,” which will be on display through Jan. 17, 2010.

“A Silent Unity of Gazes: The Photographic Vision of Luis Gonzalez Palma” will be on display through Jan. 17, 2010, at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art.

“Form & Surface: Selections from the Glenn C. Nelson Collection” will be on display through Nov. 7, 2010, at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art.

The free Veterans’ Memorial Hall exhibit “Generations of Service,” which spans roughly 150 years of military service and includes locally donated artifacts, is now open at the Depot. See www.vets-hall.org.
