Newsy Notes: I Love the Internet
The truth about blogs.By: Courtney Ellian , East High School
It’s so annoying how many blogs are out there these days. I mean, seriously.
Look at the facts: we’ve got over 27.9 million bloggers in 2009. And that’s just in the U.S. alone. Think about the rest of the world pounding their opinions and thoughts into the Internet and you’ve got a whole lot of words. That takes up a gigantic amount of virtual space.
Some bloggers talk about important issues in the world today; religion, politics, world hunger, nuclear warfare, and the like. Which is great, by the way. We need more people in the world to read about what’s going on around them, educate themselves in global events and viewpoints, and then form their own opinion on it. By all means, blog away—fine by me.
And then there are the people who blog about… well, nothing.
Ok, that’s harsh. I mean, instead of having intellectually stimulating viewpoints and conversations, they talk about what they had for dinner last night. Not that that’s a bad thing—blogs of all subjects are needed and valued. But using a blog (which is basically free Internet space that the whole world can see) to extend social lives isn’t really a valid reason to write one. We’ve already got FaceBook to quench our natural human thirst for social interaction; is it necessary to have that need branch out into every facet of the Internet?
How hypocritical I must be.
I’m complaining about blogging… in a blog.
I guess it doesn’t get any better than that!
