The Craft Draft: An Artsy Affair

An East blogger takes a look at the school's art program.

Clicks and flashes fill the halls of East high school as students take picture after picture. East is an extremely artistic school and it seems that a favorite pass time is photography.

Many students take only pictures of their friends and important events, but others go even further than that. For these students, East offers photo one and photo two. These classes provide information that expands knowledge of photography and teaches how to perfect a picture.

John Hoban is replacing Mrs. Grombacher as the photo teacher at East. However, Mr. Hoban is new to the photography world just like his students.

“I’ve never done it before, but I’m enjoying the students. It’s a good time,” said Hoban.

“I want my students to gain skills that they can use at home or in educational situations. Something that will be relevant in life.”

Students spark an interest in photography for a variety of reasons. I believe that photography opens the door to a creative mind that allows a person to gain a whole new perspective on the world around them.

“I like the ability to view things differently than people before me have,” said junior Andrew Beeman, a young photographer at East.

With a push of a button someone can capture a moment that may never be remembered again, but will live on as long as that photo exists. In a way, photography is like a small loophole into forever.
